Looking inside your dryer vent
When there is an unknown blockage in your dryer vent line we have the technology to see inside the line with a video camera to determine what is going on inside the dryer vent itself. There may be a blockage by a birds nest or a dead animal. We have found disconnected lines so that the dryer is actually emptying its moisture and lint inside of the building walls or ceiling. This is obviously not a good situation and one that needs to be fixed immediately. Another reason for viewing the interor of the line is to see the condition of the line. Particularly when there is a flexible plastic hose that may be hidden inside of the walls or ceiling. Here there can be a problem because of the disintegration of the plastic as it ages. Plastic hose over time becomes brittle and porus and it will often rip open distributing its contents inside the walls or ceilling of the house. Even if you have solid pipe depending how well it is supported it can come apart and again you lose delivery of the air and moisture to the outside of the home as dryer manufacturer recommends for safe and efficient function of the dryer unit.
Your dryer on average disburses approximately 1 1/2 gallons of water per wash load through your dryer exhaust vent to the outside. This is appreciably noticible during the cold months when you can see the vapor pouring out of your dryer vent. If this water is allowed to empty inside your home for any length of time it can become a source of mold and bacteria on your walls. Left unchecked this can become a health hazard for some families that could be sensitive to mold and bacteria.
We can determine what is going on inside the dryer vent or the walls or ceiling as the case may apply to determine what is happening when access is restricted because the piping is in the walls or ceiling.
Blockages in your dryer vent can cause your dryer to be overworked. This creates excessive wear on its parts and premature failure of the machine. It can also cause overheating of the dryer itself which can be felt simply by placing your hand on the top of the dryer. If you are running a dryer for two hours without proper ventillation it could cause a fire in the home and that is definitely not something any home owner wants to happemn. One of the most important areas in home maintenance that is often overlooked by homeowners in Rhode Island, is dryer vent cleaning. This neglected area alone has resulted in as much as 16,000 house fires annually.
This type of homeowner loss and inconvenience is the result of a residential dryer vent not being adequately cleaned on a regularly basis. Heat can buildup in a blocked dryer vent which can ingite the highly flammable lint that is supposed to be expelled through the dryer ventillation system, resulting in the loss of a home and possibly even worse the loss of lives
